Stu and I had date night about a week ago. A true date night - sans Remy! The big kids were at church for Parents' Night Out. And we lucked out because Uncle Scotty, Aunt Allison and cousin Shayli wanted to spend some QT with Rem. Woo hoo!

I've had my eye on this BBQ joint in the Gulch for a while now.
Peg Leg Porker in Nashville

It did not disappoint. Actually, I think it's my favorite BBQ spot so far.

It was fairly busy when we arrived. Peg Leg Porker is similar to Martin's... you wait in line to place your order. Then you go sit. The line in was out the door. While I was in the rest room, Stu snagged two spots at the bar in the back. You are allowed to sit and order there (if you can find seats).

I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with slaw and mac. And I asked for the HOT BBQ sauce. I was in BBQ heaven. The pork was so tender. I could taste the smoke. The mac was super cheesy and the cole slaw was juicy and refreshing.

Stu ordered ribs, beans and fries. The ribs have a dry rub on them. He opted for no sauce. His ribs were quite yummy (I may have stolen a nibble). The beans were amazing... they have a smokey flavor.

So, would I recommend this place? Enthusiastically YES. This is a must-do for out-of-towners.

Thanks Stu for taking me out on the town. And thank you to the literal village who took care of the three little Stus.

Where to next?

So far it seems all we do in Nashville is eat... Well, the southern cookin' is dang good.

Uncle Bud's, located in Donelson, is the best place for fried anything. Stu gets the fried catfish. Reagan ordered fried chicken. Riley ordered grilled chicken (egg allergy). And I asked for the fried gator.

The sides are delivered family-style shortly after you sit down. The beans and hush puppies are amazing!

I've never been a huge fan of the fair.

My parents have taken Reagan and Riley once or twice to the South Florida Fair when they were really little. Neither remembers any of it.

Fast forward to 2019. Since living in Nashville, we have heard from several people that the Wilson County Fair is a great one. One of the best in the entire state. So when my cousin asked if we would be interested in meeting them there one afternoon, we said YES.

Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint

Well, we made it to Nashville. The house is coming along... it'll be a work in progress for quite a while. But we love it.

One of the things about moving that Riley was most looking forward to was trying some new food joints - particularly spots featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. We are obsessed with the Food Network.
First up was Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint. There are several locations in the Nashville area. We opted to stop by the Mount Juliet location. I know it's not the flagship, but it was close to the shopping we were doing in the morning. If you're looking for it, it is across the street from the Providence shopping center.

As you know, Riley has a severe allergy to eggs... eating at new places is a tad bit terrifying for me. But the staff at Martin's was amazing. They knew what had eggs (the buns) and what would be safe for him to eat. They made him a grilled chicken breast with a side of fries. Reagan and I ordered BBQ pork sandwiches. Reagan had a side of fries and I chose the mac-and-cheese. All of it was DELICIOUS.

Some things you may want to know ahead of time:
  • You have to go up to the counter, order, then pick a seat and wait for your food.
  • The BBQ sauce is vinegar-based. I LOVED it. Reagan LOVED it. Just thought I'd let you know.

Send us your recommendations... We are always looking for new stuff to do.
