Last month, Stu turned 40. At first I was thinking about celebrating his old age with a handful of close friends at one of his favorite restaurants. But Stu told me (several times) that he did not really want that. According to him, he wanted no celebration of any kind. Sure, bud. Like that'll happen.
The kids and I came up with the idea to throw a poop emoji themed party. Who doesn't love that ridiculous emoji? It worked perfectly: Holy {poop}! Stu is 40!
I sent an evite out to our friends. And at this point, I had not mentioned the party to Stu at all. He was blissfully unaware. I knew I wanted to make poop emoji cupcakes, but for the rest of the decor, I took to Amazon. Below are links to the actual products I ordered. They are all PERFECT, and I HIGHLY recommend them.
In our front entry, I hung pictures of Stu from various stages in his life. I hung some and I swapped the frames out for ones that had pics of Stu. My entry table is in a state of constant change...
We hung our giant, poopy Happy Birthday banner up in the dining room. Reagan spread the headbands and photo props out on the table. Small side note: This was my first time hosting with photo props. I was SO happy to have them though, there presence alone seemed to make people want to snap pics at the party... something I do not always remember to do (see Halloween 2017 party).
Reagan helped me make the poop emoji cupcakes. They turned out SO STINKING ADORABLE! (<- see what I did there? HA!) In all seriousness, our guests LOVED them and devoured the cupcakes. Next time I make them I will probably beat the icing a bit longer to make it lighter and fluffier... these little guys took so much icing I had to make twice as much to ice them all! And all the thick, delicious chocolate icing made them a bit top heavy.
When Stu and Riley came home on Saturday (they were at a birthday party while Reagan and I set everything up), we surprised Stu with his party! Then we made the boys shower... two guys outside for several hours smell real bad.
Finally it was time for friends to arrive! We had a glorious time laughing, eating, drinking and socializing with some of our favorite folks.
I am always in the market for a good party theme... what's one of your faves? Let me know in the comments.
