rain Rain Go AWAY!

Hurry up! The sun is out! Go jump in the pool!

It's been raining for days. And not simply raining. Huge, long, insane thunderstorms. Lightning all day and night. Ugh. Our yard is basically now one giant swamp/moat. The pool is only 1.5" shy of overflowing.

I cannot even tell you the last sunny day we had. Or the last time the kids have been in the pool.

I also cannot remember the last time it's been so yucky for so long.

The kids had a half day today. At about 1:30 I thought it seemed oddly bright in the kitchen. Then I looked outside and saw something that stopped me in my tracks, something I haven't seen in nearly a week, something I was beginning to think we would never see again... THE SUN!

I was in the middle of making afternoon snacks. But I had looked wishfully at my weather app several times already today and knew there was another storm coming. The rain was projected to stop sometime... I hope.

So I did what any good mother would do. I stopped cooking, shouted at the kids to find something in the pantry to shove in their pieholes and get in the pool!

SmallStu opted to wait on the grub and ran upstairs straight away to get her suit on. TinyStu, as per his usual, moved at his own speed (glacial) and continued coloring and eating, completely oblivious to the screaming Mommy in front of him.

SmallStu came tearing down the stairs. She and I made it outside onto the pool deck when TinyStu realized what was happening. He didn't want to go upstairs alone (because he is afraid of his own shadow and all the creepy noises on the second level). Again, another parenting win for me, I told him to lose the school uniform and get in in his undies.

Of course the pool was cold. As I said earlier it's been getting a new inch or two of rain water everyday for the past week. But that barely slowed the monsters down. They laughed. They did cannonballs. They played some crazy imaginary monster game together. They thought it was a hoot that it appeared to be sunny only over our house - there was a ring of black storm clouds on all sides of us. I think God knew I needed them to get out of the house and play or I was going to go mental (more than normal). So He cleared the sky for us, and the kids had a solid hour of fun in the sun!
