Because the 4th was on a Tuesday this year, the holiday weekend felt like it lasted FOREVER.
Don't get me wrong. We had a really awesome weekend. It was busy. There was a lot of adulting happening. There was a fair amount a whining. There was a LOT of eating.
Our 4th of July on the 1st of July
Sounds confusing. But our town celebrated the 4th on the 1st this year. The town square (yes, we have one of those, and it is an actual square) party began in the afternoon. But we waited until after dinner to head down.
We had a fantastic time - Reagan LOVES being the cool older girl. Unfortunately, our kids did not make it till the fireworks.
You see what Reagan is wearing? Long jeans and long sleeves? We live in south Florida. It is NEVER EVER remotely chilly on the 4th of July. She melted. And then, one of the kids needed to go to the bathroom - the kind you don't want to do anywhere but your house. Both kids agreed to walk home. The house is only about a mile from Town Square, so not a big deal right?
I should have known that a mile walk, in the Florida mucky heat, with a child dressed for winter, at 8pm would not go well.
About half a mile in, they lost it. And when we reached our neighborhood, to find the gates closed, locked and Mommy without the keys, they yelled. There was no way to salvage this. Stu came home. The monsters showered and went right to bed (at their requests).
Better luck on the 4th?
Happy Birthday America!
Even though the StuKids don't really have a realistic grasp on fireworks, they were both quite excited for the 4th.
Recently, Uncle Zach and Aunt Steph introduced the kids to Pop-Its. Riley is OBSESSED with them. He freaked out when we walked into Publix and saw the display.
We made the best of the holiday. And I had a good one. We set off our fireworks. Then we cuddled up in front of the TV and watched the Disney's live broadcast of their Magic Kingdom fireworks. No one does fireworks like Disney. No one.
What are your 4th of July traditions? Anything fun? I'd love to hear from you.
Family & Life
Nothing super fancy here. Probably not life changing either. But you might enjoy a peek into our world.
