We had another wonderful Christmas. I really love the magic that this holiday brings with it each year. I like that ridiculous elf. I love the decorations. I love wrapping presents. I love watching Christmas movies with my kiddos (and we force Stu). I love how excited my monsters get as the day approaches. I love that they wake up every single day and can tell me exactly how many days are left. I love that they want Santa to come, but they get sad because they know Santa's arrival will mark Elvis's departure.
Our Christmas Chaos began with Christmas at the in laws. We usually celebrate the Saturday prior. This year was no exception. The kids had a great time playing with cousins. And they chased down Santa - he rides through my in laws' neighborhood on a fire truck. I think this 1 minute experience was the highlight of the day.
Christmas Eve we spent with a whole gaggle of our closest friends. This is one of my absolute favorite traditions. We eat and socialize with the grown ups while the kids run around like absolute maniacs. Then all the kids gather in the great room. My friend's mother reads The Night Before Christmas (as she has for about 25 years). After the story ends, everyone sings Christmas songs. Then there is a knock at the door... SANTA comes! The kids all freak out. Santa passes out gifts to each child. It's pretty amazing.
Our kids asked to leave after Santa left. They were exhausted and ready. And they know they have to be asleep or Santa might bypass our house. It's the one day a year we have no trouble getting them in their beds.
