There was a time in my life where Saturdays were relaxing. They were wide open. The only thing on the agenda was sleeping in, watching football and (let's be honest) telling myself I'm never drinking again.
I used to look forward to Saturday. With a sense of peaceful longing. Like if I can make it through this crappy day of teenagers being buttholes, I'll be rewarded with Saturday. Well, that ship has long sailed away. It left my port nearly eight years ago. I have monsters. Two. And if you have young kids, you know, the weekends are not for sleeping in and working off your Friday fun. For some reason kids are programmed to wake up insanely early on Saturdays. The kids you had to literally drag out of bed all week with barely enough time to make it before the school bell are magically awake and bouncing around a good hour before the sun even makes an appearance. What is up with this? Can you guys not see that Mommy and Daddy are practically dead in bed? Leave us be children! I have a rule. Don't even think about asking me to get out of bed until the clock starts with a 7. You can come in and get our phones. Then take them to your rooms and play Minecraft. Or text other people. Just don't try to wake us. Unfortunately for me, the monsters don't always abide by this rule. This morning for instance. Buddy came in at 5:45. I pulled him into bed and told him to try to go back to sleep. I was not getting up. He tried. Then 30 mins later the princess came in. She is less likely to follow my morning rule. But she climbed into our bed and snuggled with her dad. They made it like this for approximately 20 minutes. And in this time they successfully woke Stu up. So he graciously took one For the team. I pretended to be sleeping and was blessed with a bit longer in bed. Alone. When I did role my butt out of bed, and after I fed the kids, I went for a walk. I used to run. I am terrible at it. For real. Shockingly bad. But I enjoy it. However my knees don't. So I mostly walk. This morning was nice. There was actually a pretty good wind for most of the walk. I even attempted to run some of it. It was ugly. But here's the thing - I did it. And that's better than not.
And I am even happier to report that for the first time in a long time, I am beating my sisters and sister in law on our leaderboard.
Of course, it's only the 3rd day of the month... And one sister can't even walk at the moment (car accident). But I am still in the lead! Woo hoo!
