I don't know what it is in my brain, but something clicks ON when there is even the slightest hint of a competition. Even if I have zero chance of coming out on top, my brain tells my body that "we can win this thing!"
My friends have been doing this workout competition off and on I think for a while. They do a month-long challenge. V thought it'd be fun to put money on it - I know now why... she works out like a maniac. I decided to join the fun (I use that term lightly).
Let the games begin...
The rules are pretty simple. We each paid $10. We have one month to work out however we want and as often as we want. The challenge is to burn the most calories in the month. Winner takes the pot.
We are all "friends" on a workout app (Map My Run), and V set up a challenge for us. So, we input our workouts, and the app does the rest. It calculates how many calories and resets the leaderboard. The other nifty thing is, if you have your notifications on, it will send beeps each time one of the "friends" works out. This is like the best kind of peer pressure - I am constantly being told so-and-so just burned 800+ calories: GET OFF THE COUCH!
