The older I get, the more nerdy, conservative, grumpy I get. Lately I've been getting super annoyed each time I go on Facebook. I think Facebook and other social media outlets and apps have turned us into a narcissistic group of douchebags...
Ok now while I rant about this, I realize that I am a hypocrite. I use social media. A lot. I am obsessed with Instagram. In fact, I wish more of my friends were on there. I just want to look at your pics, double tap if I love it and move on to the next friend. I don't want to read a 7 line status update about your cat. I don't want to read about your political views and intolerances. I definitely don't want to read about your low self-esteem cries for love. Get over yourself. All of us need to get over ourselves.
I wish we had smarter people, not smarter phones. I wish people actually used their brains when they read something or see a picture before spreading it like wildfire and/or crucifying the individuals in the photos/posts. One of my favorite examples is this picture:
This picture went viral. It is clearly a picture of Steven Spielberg posing next to the incredibly designed triceratops from Jurassic Park. Because people are stupid and will believe anything that's been published on the internet (where PS stupid people: anyone can publish anything), this photo with a caption about how Spielberg is a "disgraceful recreational hunter" went viral. This thing was shared 32,000 times (according to the article). And people went crazy with their ignorant comments:
I miss the days of not having the general population's ignorance thrust upon me. I wish I could shelter my children from stupidity. I pray it's not contagious. I pray one day, we will find a cure for it.
I'll end my grumpy post now. And as a gift to you, I leave you with the best commercial. Enjoy!
