I love traveling. I love exploring new places, seeing new things, eating like a local. I like packing. Yes, I like packing.
In our house, for any vacation, I am the one who packs the suitcases. It's like a real-life Tetris game for me.
We are heading out on a huge adventure this month. The four of us are joining my husbands parents and brother's family for a 7-day tour of the Grand Canyon. (Super exciting, but I'll get into the trip later.)
Today's puzzle is fitting enough clothes to cover:
My Plan - Tips and Tricks
I lay out everyone's outfits. For this trip, I put the kids' clothes on the dining room table and I laid Stu's and mine out on our bed. Laying the stuff out like this allows me to see if I am missing anything obvious, like underwear (yes, I have made that mistake before). With all the clothes in neat piles, I can count easily and make sure that Rea will have the correct amount of shirts. And that Riley has enough socks.
Thanks to the travel bags, I was able to pack all of our clothes in 2 of our suitcases. I filled the largest suitcase first. The medium suitcase has the rest of the clothes and our medicines. The smallest suitcase has our shoes (each in a plastic bag) and toiletries. Basically, the small suitcase is our miscellaneous bag.
It's not always possible, but usually I try to pack up so that I have a day to spare. I don't like feeling rushed. When I am rushed, I forget things. Like underwear (worst thing ever). And traveling (with kids) is stressful enough. I like to give myself some time to just chill.
What are your packing hacks? How do you prepare for a big trip with your family?
We love to travel. Although our roaming souls often come back to the same places.
